Coming
Here is a map of the campus with
- the bus stops (in blue): get of either at stop "Université le Bourget" or "La Traverse",
- the important buildings (in red):
- "Amphithéatre 4-Cantons", where the workshop will be held,
- "CROUS", for those who have asked for a student room,
- "LAMA", where my office is (office 22).
Train / bus
The name of the train station is "Chambéry Challes les eaux":
- there are some direct TGV from Paris to Chambéry,
- there are regular regional train (1 every hour) from Lyon Part-Dieu to Chambéry or from Grenoble to Chambéry.
Once at the train station in Chambéry, you should take bus 2 or 2D toward Plage. (Bus 2 going to "Université Jacob" goes to the other campus on the other side of town...) Note that bus 2D is faster than bus 2.
There are regular buses during the day.
- timetable to go from the train station to the campus,
- timetable to go from the campus to the train station.
Plane
There is a very small airport in Chambéry, but you'll probably find more flight to Lyon Saint-Exupéry, Geneva or Grenoble.
There are several shuttles from Lyon Saint-Exupéry to Chambéry. Coming from Geneva takes a little longer and requires taking the train to Geneva center, and then to Chambéry.
Car
From Chambéry, take exit "le Bourget du Lac, campus scientifique".
Bicycle
You can rent a bike for the week at the "velo station" just next to the train station. You can then ride to the campus on a very nice bicycle path. (Ask for a map and directions at the "velo station". It is about 12 kilometers...
Sleeping
Participants can ask for a student room during registration. In case too many participants ask for a student room, priority will be given to students. This has the advantage of being very cheap and right on campus. The disadvantage is that this is on campus and that not many things happen there at nights. (But hey, we're here to work...)
For those who prefer more traditional / comfortable hotel, here are some possibilities:
- The Week-End Hotel is quite close to the campus, just in front of the lac du Bourget. It is a 5 minutes drive / 10 minutes bicycle ride / 25 minutes walk from the campus,
- The Art Hotel, in the center of Chambéry, 50 meters from the train station. You have to take a bus to the campus.
Eating
Several places offer reasonable food around the campus:
- CROUS (restaurant universitaire), just in front of the LAMA,
- la Panière for sandwiches, across the main road next to the LAMA,
- L'incontournable for kebab sandwiches and other hamburgers, across the main road next to the LAMA,
- several small restaurants in le Bourget du Lac, including:
- le Prieuré,
- le Sarto,
- la Casa,
- chez Vincent for great sandwiches with local sausage. (You have to take a bike / car to go there.)
